10 Best Free Plugins For Music Production
Whether you’re just starting out in music production or you want to try out some new plugins, these free plugins will help create some crazy beats. From high quality sounds to interesting effects, these plugins will give your music a new life (without making you any more broke). It was honestly really hard to choose just 10, but here they are in no particular order.
The first 5 are VST instruments and the last 5 are effect plugins.
Labs - Spitfire Audio
LABS has one of the largest collection of free sounds in a VST. Plus, they’re extremely high quality. You’ve probably heard of their infamous Soft Piano, but they have instruments of all categories like synths, cinematic strings, bells, drums …
BBC ORCHESTRA
BBC Orchestra is a must have for making cinematic scores and soundtracks. This VST is exactly what it sounds like, an entire orchestra in your computer. It has a full range of strings, brass, woodwinds, and percussion, and you can change the parameters of each instrument individually. BBC Orchestra is made by the same company as LABS so you already know you’re gonna get some high quality sounds.
Vinyl Guitar 2
Vinyl Guitar 2 is great plugin for any VST guitar needs. It has a collection of many different types of guitar sounds, and they all sound fire. You can even pick one, mess with the parameters, and make it sound completely different.
ANalog Lab Play
Analog Lab Play is a plugin that brings the classic warmth and character of vintage analog synths right into your DAW. The interface is clean and intuitive, making it easy to get started right away. With sounds curated from Analog Lab Pro, it offers pads, keys, basses, strings, drums and way more.
VITAL
Vital is a fully usable and free wavetable synthesizer. With 3 oscillators, envelopes, LFOs and more tools, this VST makes it a must have for sound designers. It’s also extremely easy to learn and get started without much experience in synths. Many people call it the free version of Serum for good reason.
Valhalla Supermassive
Valhalla Supermassive is a common favorite reverb plugin. It has many reverb presets, delay presets, and even SFX presets. Without having to touch any of the knobs, you can pick a preset you are looking for and it will sound good.
PANCZ
At its core, Pancz is a transient shaper. But it can do so much more. Pancz can shape the transients, and tail of sounds within a drum loop. It can add “presence” and “air”, which adds so much more life. It can even get more specific by turning on multi band mode.
OCS-45
OCS-45 is a Cassette/Tape Simulation effect plugin. With many different parameters to mess with like distortion, flutter, wobble, quality, cassette type and more, this plugin satisfy all your needs to simulate tape. Even by clicking a random pre-made preset, you will get what you are looking for.
Tal Chorus
Tal Chorus is a free chorus effect plugin modeled after classic hardware units from the 80s. With a simple interface, it lets you get any chorus sound from subtle to a thick stereo spread. This plugin is definitely a must have without weighing down your wallet or CPU.
Tal Filter
Although the name suggests one thing, Tal Filter is not a “filter” plugin. It acts more as an LFO where you can mess with the shape of volume, filter, and pan. Getting cool wobble and stutter sounds with this plugin is EASY.
Thank you for reading through and I hope this helps. I’m sure these plugins will help because I personally use all of these plugins CONSISTENTLY. In fact, most of my beats are made with free plugins (I rarely buy plugins).
